Born in 1860, Annie Oakley was America’s first female superstar. Her sharpshooting skills grew out of need: at just six years old, she hunted for her family’s food. Later, Annie nabbed a husband after trouncing him in a shooting contest. Together, they starred in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, where she was known for her accuracy. She could shoot the ashes off a cigarette and split a playing card on edge, plus send five more bullets through it before it hit the ground. Ms. Oakley passed away in 1926, and her husband died of grief two weeks later. Love and bullets: now that’s a Ruffle chick. Photo credit: wikipedia.com
