Movies are great at fantasy: fantastically beautiful people, fantastically dramatic situations, and fantastically luxurious locations. Since sometimes it’s nice to pretend, here are three top hotels that make our list for dream places to stay, straight from the silver screen.
The Ocean Club
A villa on the sand, daily delivered strawberries and champagne, and thrice-daily maid service: what’s good enough for 007 is good enough for us. The Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas began as a private estate and was purchased by international playboy Huntington Hartford II in the ’60s. It became a hotel and played host to that other cad in Casino Royale, before Bond was Bond and he still let the ladies get away with nothing more than a good kiss. Go ahead and get back to your own humble beginnings, Bond-style, with a luxury beachfront suite at $2545/night – chump change!
Hotel del Coronado
The largest resort hotel in the world at its opening in 1888, San Diego’s Hotel del Coronado has been the site of many films since, but Marilyn Monroe’s comedy Some Like It Hot is the most iconic. As a guest today, you can make like Marilyn and get beautiful in the massive spa or the myriad boutiques that dot the property. Or, strike your own pinup pose on the powdery beach. For a classic Norma Jean experience, book a Victorian room for $325/night; if you like it hot and modern, spring for a full ocean view at $545/night.
Hotel Raphael
Christened the “Hotel Chevalier” as the best part of a Wes Anderson short by the same name, Hotel Raphael‘s 1925 Paris charm easily stole the show from Natalie Portman and her naked bum. Make your own mischief in the room used for the film (a mere $650/night), or rewrite the script in the swoon-worthy Arc de Triomphe suite.
